Rudolf Birmili (Rudi), his wife Hilde and children Elke and Stefan, migrated from the southern German city of Stuttgart in 1981 whereupon Rudi worked as a smallgoods maker in various places but never satisfied with the quality and recipes that he was being made to produce. There was only one solution and Rudis Continental Butchery was established in 1983. Rudis quickly gained a reputation for unwavering quality and value for which people from far and wide would venture, to sample his delicious traditional German Wurst.
Rudi was joined by his son Stefan in 1990, whereupon leaving a career at QANTAS as an avionic engineering apprentice, began his culinary journey into smallgoods and butchery.
Upon Rudis retirement in 1995 Stefan took over the family business, and as a third generation German butcher Stefan quickly took to the art. He has been joined over the years by fantastic staff who take great pride in upholding our traditions.
Stefan along with Roland Scheurer, our chief smallgoods maker, has proudly been part of our production crew for over 10 years and hand crafts our wonderful products with great pride and precision, making our store one of its kind. Over the years we have blended the best of German and Australian production and Butchery techniques. Together Stefan and his Team have evolved the shop over time to offer not only traditional German Smallgoods and meats, but also cater for people with special dietary needs and intolerances. Using the traditional techniques we can create fantastic products without preservatives, nasty chemicals and needles additives.
Having had the privilege to supply the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour (until its close), as well as Pope Benedict XVI during his visit down under. We have enjoyed being the purveyor of choice for many Germans, Travellers and Foodies alike, giving us great pride in our store, staff and products.
